Muddy Springs Farm
Seasonal Local Sustainable
- FRUIT -
We grow a number of different varieties of fruit in addition to the vegetables and herbs that make up the core of our weekly boxes. We do not usually sell fruit as a standalone item. In approximate seasonal order of harvest, boxes may include: strawberries, apricots, cherries, plums, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and pears. Our fruit should be eaten or processed right away, since it is picked at peak ripeness and is unlikely to store for long.
While we are fortunate to have a few surviving homestead fruit trees on the farm, the majority of our fruit trees, vines, and bushes were only planted in the past several years, and will take a few more years to come into full production. Our newer fruit trees were selected to include rare or unusual heirloom varieties that have outstanding flavor, but are seldom found in grocery stores (or even farmers markets) due to very short harvest periods and/or high perishability.
